Film Summary

The Dark Knight movie synopsis: Batman (Christian Bale) raises the stakes in his war on crime in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker (Heath Ledger).

Box Office: For its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, The Dark Knight accumulated a total of $158,411,483. The Dark Knight also set a new record for opening weekend gross in IMAX theaters, accumulating $6.2 million to beat Spider-Man 3's previous record of $4.7 million.
As of December 23, 2008, The Dark Knight had grossed $530,833,780 in the North American box office, in the process becoming the second film to gross more than $500 million in the North American box office, after Titanic, and doing so in significantly less time.It had also grossed $465,993,073 in other countries. As of August 29, 2010, its total worldwide gross stands at $1,001,758,644.
