Monsters University topped the weekend’s box office for the second week in a row, earning $46.2 million!
But the big winner of this week is The Heat, which has opened at the upper end of expectations. Don’t be shocked, anyone paying attention sawing it coming months ago. The Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy buddy-cop comedy The Heat opened with $40 million this weekend.
On the No. 3 spot was Brad Pitt‘s latest flick World War Z, bringing in an additional $30 million.
The big disappointment of this week, White House Down, comes on the 4th place. White House Down is actually 2013's second "Die Hard in the White House" movie, and with a budget of $150 million, it was expected to be the bigger of the two. But the R-rated Olympus Has Fallen debuted to a cool $30.3 million back in March. The new actioner received an A- CinemaScore from audiences though, so word of mouth could help White House Down in the weeks to come.
Seth Rogen‘s directorial debut This Is the End grossed an additional $8.7 million in its third weekend for a North American total of $74.7 million.
