So Iron Man is currently sitting atop a giant pile of money, but Superman is flying back into theaters next month, and if the third TV spot for Man of Steel is any indication, this hero will be facing far bigger foes than the Mandarin.
Warner Bros. is ramping up the hype-building effort that has been so effective for the last several months, coolly promising that Zack Snyder's take on Superman's origin will revitalize the character for mass audiences who, by and large, have cynically dismissed Superman. The film, hitting theaters on June 14th, isn't just looking to rejuvenate an unfairly maligned 75 year-old superhero, but to serve as the first huge building block for a Marvel-style shared universe of DC Comics heroes.
Late last week, the studio unveiled a second Man of Steel TV spot, one that including lots of glimpses of flying and really played up the aspirational elements of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's durable creation.
This new spot isn't so thematically focused, but it does show off quite a bit of new footage, just like its predecessor. This one gives some new looks at what Supes is up against, as we see some dangerous Kryptonian machinery thudding to Earth and, in another instance, devastating Metropolis. There are quick bits of Michael Shannon in action as the villainous General Zod, along with Antje Traue as his right-hand henchperson Faora.
