"They have your baby!" Aside from a couple first look photos back in February, the curtain has not yet been pulled back on Insidious: Chapter 2, the sequel to the James Wan-directed horror hit from writer Leigh Wannell.
The film probably shouldn’t exist. It’s the sequel to a 2011 film starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Barbara Hershey that was made for $1.5 million. Released with zero expectations, the tiny little film exploded at the box office, grossing almost $60 million, a success ratio that puts it in firmly blockbuster range.
The trailer teased some creepy imagery and reveals a small part of the idea behind the film: a haunted family trying to survive a poltergeist.
Not much is known about the plot, being kept a secret. The haunted Lambert family seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. Director James Wan (Saw, Dead Silence, Death Sentence, Insidious, The Conjuring) shot the sequel in LA this year, from a screenplay written by Leigh Whannell that picks up where the first ends, after it turns out (spoiler) that Josh is also possessed.
Insidious Chapter 2, coming to theaters on September 13.
